7/11 accused complete human rights diploma course

MUMBAI: EhteshamSiddiqui, an accused in the 7/11 serial train blasts of 2006 has cleared a Human Rights diploma course while in jail custody. "Terrorism and Human rights are contradictory to each other but here is an example of an accused who is facing serious charges of terrorism and languishing in jail but has successfully passed a Diploma course in Human Rights commission from the Indira Gandhi National Open University,'' said advocate ShaheedAnsari.

Siddiqui, one of the several accused was arrested by the Mumbai Anti Terrorism Squad ( ATS) for his alleged role in hatching conspiracy of the blast which occurred IN 2006 in which 187 persons have lost their lives in explosion while 817 otherssuffered injuries of various gravities and the property of worth Rs 85 lakh has reportedly been damaged.

Advocate Shahid Nadeem Ansari is one of the advocates for Siddiqui which through a Muslim NGO Jamiat Ulama e Maharashtra (Arshad Madani) is offering free legal aid to the Muslim youth who they say are innocent and wrongly arrested on the charges of terrorism. He said that the accused had completed his six months correspondence diploma course in jail and his exam was conducted at Arthur road jail. Advocate Ansari added that IGNOU's policy is to not take any fees from under trial prisoners and University staff members creates an exam hall atmosphere in the prison itself.

Another accused, Dr Sharif, in the Aurangabad Arms Haul case too has taken admission to the three year Law Degree course through distance education and had completed his second year.
