MUMBAI: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's statement in a rally in Maharashtra where she said that her party would come to power in the country and the state has been termed as 'hilarious' by one of the Republican parties in the state.

Republican Party of India (RPI-A) leader Ramdas Athavale on Monday ridiculed Mayawati's statement that the BSP would come to power in the state. "Her statement that she would come to power in the state is hilarious. Her party has no presence in the state. Only the RPI-A decides who should come to power. We supported the Congress-NCP government and hence they came to power. We are now supporting the Sena-BJP alliance and they will come to power in the state," the RPI chief said.

Reacting to Mayawati's statement that she would not be satisfied with just building a memorial for Dalit leader Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in just 12 acres and would in stead go for building a memorial in 200 acres, Athavale remarked that his party would go in for building a much larger memorial.
