MUMBAI: The NASSCOM 2013 Social Innovation Honours were presented to eight achievers for their contribution towards bridging the "digital divide". Among the prize-winning technological innovations was the Saksham Scholarship Management Programme by the National Informatics Centre, Lucknow.
The programme is aimed at eliminating corruption in scholarship distribution. The "easy-to-use" mobile telephony money transfer scheme of Yes Bank and the home-link network of the Don Bosco Foundation that helps track missing children was also awarded. Other winners were the mobile-based crop estimation technology, the Birla Institute of Technology and Mesra's ( Jharkhand) technology innovation for teaching dyslexic children. A mobile application for women in distress called Stipator figured on the list.
UP's IVRS-based midday meal delivery tracking programme received the UNICEF honour. The winners were selected by a jury headed by former TCS CEO S Ramadorai. Union commerce & industry minister Anand Sharma and Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan distributed the awards.
