MUMBAI: The Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has written to the state government to rectify the word 'Bangladesh' mentioned in government documents of three settlements in the region.

Three areas in Bhayander (west) are refered to as 'Bangladesh' in government and municipal documents. The settlements in Utan, Chowk and behind Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose ground has been refered to as 'Bangladesh' for over 35 years. The ration cards, election cards, voters' list, aadhar cards of the residents have the address as 'Bangladesh'.

The MBMC has now asked the government to delete the word 'Bangladesh' from government records and issue fresh documents to the residents. The issue was raised last month when the MBMC issued birth certificate with the address as 'Bangladesh'. Earlier, objections were raised to the use of the word 'Chotta Kashmir' in the electricity bills of residents of Santosh Bhuvan in Nalasopara (east).
