MUMBAI: TABcab, which has a fleet of nearly 1,700 private taxis on road, celebrated Valentine's Day in a unique way on Thursday.
All its cabs were decorated with heart shaped hot air balloons, tied from its doors and flying in the air. "Each customer was greeted with a heart shaped balloon and a Happy Valentine's Day greeting by the driver,'' said a TabCab spokesperson. She claimed that this was the first such initiative executed by any taxi service in Mumbai. The spokesperson further stated,"It is our way of celebrating this day and painting the city streets with the colour of love. Our initiative got a good response from commuters."
TabCab is in the process of introducing 1,200 more taxis on city roads within a couple of months. This will ensure that there are more fleet taxis available for commuters. At present, there is a need for at least 5,000 more fleetcabs in Mumbai, sources said. Meanwhile, Meru Cabs, which has been facing a strike from the Shiv Sena union, has managed to convince several drivers to return on roads.
More than 1,000 cabs have been plying on road since Monday while the Sena union claims that the strike is still on.
