Elderly woman held for duping investors of Rs 2 crore

MALEGAON: Chhavani police here have arrested a 62-year-old woman from Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai, for allegedly duping several local residents to the tune of Rs two crore altogether.

Sindhubai Murlidhar Khonde, the accused was remanded in six days police custody by the court here today.

Khonde, during her stay in Malegaon a few months ago, allegedly collected huge sums from investors, promising that the amount would be doubled within two to four weeks.

To win the local people's trust, she also spent money for religious functions and social causes, police said.

After collecting the money, she disappeared.
