MUMBAI: Forty three students of a government-run residential school for tribals in Talasari taluka, around 120km from Mumbai suffered food poisioning after allegedly consuming stale food for dinner on Monday night.
The students, aged 6 to 14, are being treated in a government hospital and are now stable. Students of the school located at Sutrakar in Talasari began complaining of dizziness, vomitting and upset stomach since early Tuesday. They were rushed to the hospital. Students said that they had complained of stale food but the school authorities warned them to eat what was served.
Samples of stool have been send for testing and results are awaited, said Kalpana Gode,Tehsildar,Talasar. Gode who visited the students in the hospital said that food samples have also been send for testing.
An inquiry will be initiated and the contractor will face action if found guilty, said Gode. Students said that they had in the past complained of stale food but no action has been taken against the contractors.
