MUMBAI: ACPVasantDhoble's supporters in the police force say he has paid the price for taking on commercial establishments owned by powerful politicians. At the same time, the fact remains that the officer's actions when he was with the social service branch, including moral policing, have always been controversial. Experts have time and again pointed out that a short-staffed police's primary responsibility is upholding law and order, and not going after citizens in pubs and bars.
Officers who support Dhoble said the ACP had a clean image and thus enjoyed his superiors' support. "He has an unconventional style of functioning and delivers justice on the spot," said an officer. "One may not agree with such a style of functioning. Whether it is effective or not, it certainly is a way to make enemies."
