MUMBAI: Birds are among the most conspicuous part of the wonders of Mother Nature, particularly in urban areas, since other forms of life are not so common. In an attempt to revive the bond with our melodious friends, "Kidzbirds in Urban India" - a book on birds for children and grown-ups alike was today launched in Bombay Natural History Society.
The book is created for children of seven years and above, but even grown-ups will find it enjoyable and useful. 'Kidzbirds' looks at birds and through them at the world of nature, in an intelligent manner, beyond the cartoon crazy entertainment world that most kids' books offer. Elaborating on the book, the naturalist-writer-photographer author of the book, Monga, said, "We are increasingly becoming residents of the urban world and simultaneously ignorant to the enthralling nature around us. There is lot more to urban India than just the crow and the pigeon. Most of us are unaware of the fact that an average of 200 species of birds could be surviving in and around every urban area, while on the whole, nearly half (about 600) of all the species of birds known to occur in India, have been sighted in and around urban areas."
