MUMBAI: Four auto drivers have been arrested on charges of murdering a 45-year-old man and dumping his body in a nullah. The body of Premchand Vishwakarma (40) was found in a man hole at Hathkesh in Kashimira by the conservancy workers while cleaning a nullah. The body was tied in a gunny bag.
Vishwakarma's family had registered a missing complaint with the Kashimira police on December 12. Vishwakarma, a resident of Janata Nagar in Kashimira had left home for work in the morning of December 12. His cell phone was unreachable through the day. In the late evening his family lodged a complaint.
On December 13, the conservancy staff found a gunny bag stuck in a man hole. It turned out to be that of Vishwakarma. On investigation the police arrested Rajesh Yadav (28), Jairam Chouhan (38), Subhash Mouyra (50) and Shivprasad Yadav (35) all auto rickshaw drivers and residents of the same locality. Police said that Vishwakarma and the four accused were part of chit fund group.
Vishwakarma had taken money under the chit fund scheme but had failed to repay it. On December 12, Rajesh called Vishwakarma to his home after work, where he along with Jairam, Subhash and Shivprasad murdered him with sharp weapons. They then disposed off his body in the nullah in the wee hours of December 13. The accused have been remanded to police custody till December 20 by the Thane Sessions court.
