MUMBAI: Continuing with the first volunteers meet, the Walking Project organised 'Walkshop: Pedestrians Audit of a Road'. The two-hour event was an effort to visually inspect a stretch of the Bandra Linking Road for challenges faced by pedestrians and highlight them with the authorities.

The Walking Project is about creating the best possible walking environment for Mumbai in the next 10 years. If you enjoy walking and are interested in improving the walking environment in Mumbai (or atleast your neighbourhood) then be a part, says Rishi Aggarwal, an environmentalist.

The idea is that by 2012 when it will be Rio + 30 one sustainability goal will be achieved.

The Project will:Encourage citizens to undetake audits of their streets and roads and compile results on how walkable Mumbai is; develop templates for audits and share the same; do awareness programs to make Mumbai citizens understand the importance of a safe and comfortable walking environment.

With determined efforts by Jaypal Shetty, the group convened a meeting of numerous active citizen groups and individuals to undertake activities to improve walking conditions in (North) Ward.
