Kalina Village Boys emerge champions in the 13th Kalina Football League

MUMBAI: Kalina Village Boys halted the winning streak and dashed the title hopes of Indian FC. The Village Boys carved out a 3-1 win over a young, spirited Indian FC in a well-contested final of the 13th Kalina Football League (KFL) organised by the Sports Committee of Our Lady of Egypt Church and played at the church ground, Kalina.

Kingsley Rebello struck a brace and Karan Pal got the third for the champions, while Akash Chavan scored the consolation goal for the runners-up.

Had it not been for the gallant efforts of goalkeeper Vikram Singh under the Indian FC bar, the margin of defeat could have been much bigger. Vikram affected quite a number of timely saves to restrict the more experienced opponents Village Boys to three goals. His efforts did not go unnoticed as he was later adjudged the 'Best goalkeeper of the tournament'.

Prakash Sonawane and Pawan Rawat, both of Indian FC were declared as the 'Player of the tournament' and 'Most promising player of the tournament respectively. Kingsley Rebello for his twin strikes was named 'Player of the final'.

Results: Men: Kalina Village Boys 3 (Kingsley Rebello 2, Karan Pal) beat Indian FC 1 (Akash Chawan).

Highest goal scorer: Bhomeet Vakharia (Egyptian Boys); Most promising player: Pawan Rawat (Indian FC); Player of the tournament: Prakash Sonawane (Indian FC); Best goalkeeper: Vikram Singh (Indian FC); Best defender: Danston Rodrigues (Kalina Village Boys); Player of the final: Kingsley Rebello (Kalina Village Boys).
